Sunny Saturday...

I spotted these colorful characters in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom. They were sitting in the sun outside an eclectic shop.

Warm Sunny Fall Morning

It was unseasonably warm in the mountains today...close to 75 F. I went for a long walk and found this gentleman brushing his horse. He reminded me a lot of my grandfather which made me happy. He shouted, waved hello and commented on what a great day it was. Both he and the horse seemed completely content in the sun at the edge of the barn.

Southern hospitality...

On Sunday, we drove west to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. We were met at the door by our guide--a welcoming man with tall tales and a bright yellow tie. On Tuesday, we drove east along the James River to Berkeley Plantation. Our guide for that stately home was the chatty man below, who regaled us with stories of Colonial times, the Civil War, and mail-order brides.

Secret Santa...

We spotted this holiday elf dressing up Charlottesville's historic downtown Sunday afternoon. I was drawn to the play of bold colors.

Hair Care

The beauty industry always seems a bit bizarre to me. I have little need of their services (not much to work with on me in any department:-).

War Stories

I have no idea whether these two guys knew each other before today or not. But I did catch parts of their conversation as they were both trading war stories. I specifically heard them talking about the Korean war at one point. I'm guessing if you go through something like that (any type of war really) that you can probably instantly relate to another person that's been through that same type of experience. This is one of those things those of us that haven't gone through just will never grasp. Makes me realize that I'll never fully understand the sacrifice people that join the military service make on our behalf. Even if you don't support the reasoning behind a conflict, it's hard not to have a ton of respect for the guys that have actually been on the front lines and done their job.

Juice box...

A man, his paper, and his juice box. Seems like a simple life to me. I spotted this man at Ft. Mason, sitting in the sunshine quietly...oblivious to the world around him.

What's up with this...

This shot is less about recognizable people than it is about spotting folks where you least expect them. This morning, I was on the phone in my office, looking out over the SF Financial District, when I caught a glimpse of these men fixing an old tiled roof. I'm on the 33rd floor, so I'm guessing these folks are in the mid 20s. And crazy.

Who is Elle...

I spotted this woman on her cell phone...lost in conversation. Is her name Elle? Oh I hope so. That would be too fun :) I picture her running around the city scribbling her name everywhere she stands...a bit of performance art?

Skate Park

Got this shot when we were at a local park that happens to also have a skating area. This was one of the better guys there.

Wireless world...

On a sunny Monday at lunchtime, New York's Bryant Park is jammed full of escaped office dwellers--set free by their laptops and wireless hotspots. ALMOST peaceful..in a high-strung NYC sort of way!

At the zoo...

Spotted this elderly gentleman at the Central Park Zoo, watching the sea lion feeding. There is something reassuring about him--he is clearly comfortable in his daily routine. Leading a peaceful existence in the heart of the big city.

At the Met...

The steps of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art are typically crowded with people. These two couldn't have been less interested in art.

Let the music play...

Someone requested that the band play a Peter, Paul, & Mary song and these children spontaneously broke into dance. The little girl in purple cheered them on. I guess Puff still has a lot of power after all these years.
