Santa Says Happy Halloween

Caught a glimpse of what may be Santa (or a disguised member of ZZ Top) in some festive Halloween colors out waiting to enjoy a hay ride at a local pumpkin patch farm.

Just wanted to say Happy Halloween to all our loyal readers (all three of you).

It's Gotta Be The Shoes

So this person appears to be dressed at least somewhat professionally. At least I think she looks dressed up a bit, but at the same time I'm a guy, so I don't know the idiosyncrasies of dressing up (in fact most of my outfits wouldn't match if my wife didn't pick them out for me). Anyway, it looks like she's wearing flip flops. So what's going on here? Does she have another pair of shoes in her bag that possibly has heels and she's wearing the flips because they're easier to get around in and more comfortable, or do the flip flops type shoes really constitute business appropriate shoes? And why am I looking at this picture and noticing shoes? What's up with that?

For the detail minded, I snapped this out on the mall in downtown DC around midday. There was a solar power housing exhibit on the mall at the time and that's what you see in the background.

Waiting For Refreshments

There are a couple of things I like about this picture. She was waiting patiently as her companion was in line getting them something to drink.

Red Light District II

Since people (okay, so far it's not "people" per se and just my other blog contributors, but I can dream can't I?) seemed to like the photo from yesterday, figured I would throw in a bonus one. I think the lights from the vehicle in the background resulted in this picture not having the shutter open for quite as long, so the guy doesn't appear to be as illuminated by the flares as the shot from yesterday (which is what I think made yesterday's shot work). Still, it's the only other shot I have of the scene that isn't incredibly blurred.

Inverted Stranger

Ever wondered what a stranger looks like through the world's largest flawless crystal ball? Yea, me either, but I have these pictures anyway. These were captured at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.


I briefly considered titling this post "1 / Stranger", but figured I might be the only person on the planet that would find it amusing.

What were you expecting?

At a recent Fall outing with my family we took a hayride to a pumpkin patch. Well, it may have been a pumpkin patch at one time, but now it was just a field with a bunch of pumpkins laying around. I think you could "pick" one and the farm would just replace it to keep up the appearance of the "pumpkin patch". Anyway, the two girls in jeans and tan shirts were the guides, and in this shot they seem to be explaining the concept to some other participants. At least, that's what I imagine is happening. I was too far away to actually hear anything.

Afternoon nap...

This Stranger caught a quick catnap in a warm sunbeam at the Getty Villa in Malibu.

Where there's smoke...

The hardest working Strangers at any street festival are the food prep guys. These folks work in direct sun, stand over charcoal grills, and breathe smoke so that your meat-on-a-stick is hot and fresh.

Real passion...

While I'm posting soccer-related photos, I didn't want to pass up this colorful Stranger, who wandered throughout RFK stadium to rally the D.C. United fans. I'm almost certain that this fan is not paid by the team...and that it TRUE FANATICISM.

Autographs by Strangers...

This Stranger is a celebrity...of some sort. He is a starting player on the D.C. United soccer team. But I haven't a clue who he is. Nevertheless, these young fans certainly wanted his signature.

Golden Statues...

These Strangers were performing as part of the Big Apple Circus. They were completely painted in gold body paint. Their act, a performance of beauty, strength and balance, was very striking.
