The sound of bagpipes...
This local musician was playing for a wedding in the valley by the lake. There are a lot of Scottish and Irish here. Actually in the Blue Ridge there is a great diversity of people. In the early days it was land so rugged that not too many folks thought it was desireable, but a few hardy souls looking for a new home made their way here. Now of course it is a big retirement destination. I just love the sound of bagpipes sad and patriotic at the same time.

Love the picture!
Tradition... too often those special things that make up tradition are lost... and it is too bad. Tradition helps promote respect for one another. This guy with the bagpipes commands respect, don't you think?
I recently snapped a pic of a bag pipe player, but I haven't posted it yet. I will soon though. In the meantime, I think you'll like some of my recent shots on my photoblog ;-)
When I'm old, I think I will try to learn the bagpipe just to be as cool as that guy. Mad props to old people who still do whatever they want.

I am Welsh by way of Scotland (my family fled from the Normans); my people landed here in 1651 and very quickly made their way to the Carolinas, Virginia Highlands, and North Georgia. Is there a more beautiful spot in America than the Blue Ridge? Of course, but not to us:)
Verra' nice!
