In San Francisco, there is no better place to catch Strangers at their merriest than on the cable cars. 365-days a year, the cars between Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf are packed full...and at Christmas, the tourists are just a touch bit jollier.

GOOD observation . BUT……Thats not exactly true. I have witnessed such merriment at fisherman’s wharf, north beach for lunch, the 4 seasons for lunch also, china town [ Stockton street],, golden gate park and also, watching them freeze out at ocean beach , teeth chattering, BUT still a smile on their faces..
The same goes for those walking over golden gate bridge, and those tourists who bike to Sausalito, as well as those on the Ferry boats to Tiburon or even picnics on angel island.
Tourists walking along the embarcadero also seem to have s sense of merriment,
Some as far south as when I have my ususal breakfast ritual at the Ritz Carlton in half moon bay every Sunday morning before the nouveau riche arrive.
an occasional smattering on top of Coit tower, to say nothing of those in awe on top of twin peaks just absorbing the view.. even at 6 in the morning there are people up there totally caught up in the beauty of it with smiles on their faces. .
you REALLY should get out more. .. but the cable cars DO appear to be a powerful catalyst for smiles and good thoughts
thanks for sharing
